Sungwon Kang is an associate professor of the Department of Computer Science at KAIST. In 1990's, his research focus was communication protocol testing and, leading a team of researchers of the KT R&D center, and he developed automated testing systems to test the ATM communication equipment. Since he came to KAIST in 2001, his interests expanded to include education for software engineers and research on the topics of software architecture, software product line and software testing. In the period of 2003-2013, together with his colleagues, he contributed to the software industry of Korea by producing over 70 highly-trained software engineers with Masters' degree in collaboration with Carnegie-Mellon University. In 2012, he published the book, Invitation to Software Architecture, which bases architecture design of software systems on twelve fundamental principles.
