2015

The KAIST Department of Computer Science was expanded to the KAIST School of Computing.

2013

Kim, Byung-Ho, Kim Sam-Youl IT Convergence Building was constructed.

2009

KAIST merges with Information and Communications University (ICU).

2003

The computer science building was expanded with the addition of the fourth floor with donations from Alumni members, Sang-Su Oh, A-Ra Khil and Young-Kyung Ahn.

1990

The first commencement for bachelor degree students was held.

1989

KAIST merged with KIT and relocated to Daejeon Campus.

1986

The undergraduate program for electrical engineering and computer science major was established in KIT and enrolled its first undergraduate students.

1984

Korea Institute of Technology (KIT) was established to offer the undergraduate program.

1980

The name of the institute was changed to Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

1979

The first computer science Ph.D degree was awarded.

1978

The computer science department was officially established.

1975

The first five computer science master’s degrees were awarded and the first Ph.D students were admitted.

1973

A master’s degree program in computer science started in 1973.

1972

The computer science major was established as a part of the math and physics department.

1971

KAIST was established under the name of Korea Advanced Institute of Science (KAIS) in Hongneung Campus, Seoul on February 16, 1971 as the first research-oriented science and technology graduate school in Korea.
