TSE is the top journal in software engineering, and one of two SCI journals in software engineering, along with ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology (TOSEM). TSE has an impact factor of 6.11 in JCR 2019 and is currently ranked at the 6th place by Google Scholar among the Software Systems conferences and journals.

Kim) of our School was awarded the Grand Prize in the IT category for the 10th Excellent Dissertation Award from the S-OIL Science and Culture Foundation. The award winners were selected based on their academic papers published in outstanding international journals during their doctoral degrees. This award is jointly conferred to the doctoral student who has published a number of excellent theses and his/her advisor. Dr. Seung-Hwan Baek and Prof. Min H. Kim were highly recognized for their computational imaging technology using lightwave characteristics, especially in the field of computer graphics/computer vision. Dr. Baek is currently serving as a postdoc researcher at Princeton University, so his mother attended the award ceremony in place. This is an article on the recent agreement between KAIST and SKT to prevent the spread of the coronavirus using the PreSPI solution developed by Professor Dong-Soo Han in our school. Using a smartphone as a black box, it is possible to can check the traveled paths of confirmed cases and whether there was contact with others nearby. On November 8th, KAIST announced that it has signed a business agreement with SK Telecom for the development and commercialization of “PreSPI,” a management solution for preventing the spread of COVID-19. PreSPI is a system that analyzes various signal information from the satellite positioning system (GPS), Wi-Fi, wireless LAN, and base stations to determine whether a COVID-19 confirmed person was in contact with his/her neighbors. This solution applies the concept of a black box and stores the user's location information in the smartphone storage for two weeks. As this information is not disclosed outside and is discarded after two weeks, there is no fear of personal privacy exposure. It is also possible to report the risk of infection to nearby people by analyzing the pathways of confirmed cases and self-quarantine cases. Experimental results showed that the system can distinguish the contact distance between a confirmed patient and a nearby person at the level of 2-3m. When a user is confirmed or self-quarantined, the information stored in the smartphone storage device is transmitted to the server. Based on this transmitted information and the information stored in the nearby smartphones, the risk of infection is quantified by taking into account the degree and duration of path overlap. PreSPI users around the confirmed cases can check their risk of infection in a number ranging from 1 to 100 through the smartphone application. SK Telecom and KAIST plan to commercialize the PreSPI solution next year. Professor Dong-Soo, who developed this solution, said, "An epidemiological investigator who needs to track down the traveled paths of confirmed cases can obtain the pathway information using the solution. Professor Meeyoung Cha’s research investigating the correlation between the number of followers on social media and its influence was re-highlighted after 10 years of publication of the paper. Saying that her research is still as relevant today as the day it was published 10 years ago, the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) presented Professor Cha from the School of Computing with the Test of Time Award during the 14th International Conference on Web and Social Media (ICWSM) held online June 8 through 11. In her 2010 paper titled ‘Measuring User Influence in Twitter: The Million Follower Fallacy,’ Professor Cha proved that number of followers does not match the influential power. She investigated the data including 54,981,152 user accounts, 1,963,263,821 social links, and 1,755,925,520 Tweets, collected with 50 servers. The research compares and illustrates the limitations of various methods used to measure the influence a user has on a social networking platform. These results provided new insights and interpretations of the influencer selection algorithm used to maximize the advertising impact on big social networking platforms. The research also looked at how long an influential user was active for, and whether the user could freely cross the borders between fields and be influential on different topics as well. By analyzing cases of who becomes an influencer when new events occur, it was shown that a person could quickly become an influencer using several key tactics, unlike what was previously claimed by the ‘accidental influential theory’. Professor Cha explained, “At the time, data from social networking platforms did not receive much attention in computer science, but I remember those all-nighters I pulled to work on this project, fascinated by the fact that internet data could be used to solve difficult social science problems. I feel so grateful that my research has been endeared for such a long time.” Professor Cha received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from KAIST, and conducted this research during her postdoctoral course at the Max Planck Institute in Germany. A research team led by Prof. Sooel Son published a paper, titled FUSE: Finding File Upload Bugs via Penetration Testing in Network and Distributed System Security (NDSS), one of the top security conferences in San Diego, USA from Feb. 24 to 27, 2020. File uploading feature in modern web applications is important in terms of sharing user-generated contents. However, there is a potential security threat in that the file upload function may upload arbitrary files created by attackers to the target server and used to take over the target system. In this study, the team of Web Security & Privacy Lab created a simulation testing tool called FUSE, found 30 new vulnerabilities in file uploading features from 33 popular web applications such as WordPress and Joomla, and received 15 CVEs.
