Soon Joo Hyun is a faculty member of CS department of KAIST and the professor of intelligent database systems research laboratory (iDB lab). He received his M.E. degree in electrical engineering from Katholike Universitate Leuven (KUL) and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Florida in 1987 and 1995, respectively. He worked with Bell Telephone/ITT, Belgium and ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) Korea during the period of 1984 to 1997 before he joined ICU (Information and Communications Univ.) as a founding faculty member in 1998. He led many research projects in the areas of Context-aware Ubiquitous Computing and Sensor Network Databases. He recently led an industry project to develop a sensor network database management system, SNQL for fixed and mobile sensor nodes.
