Colloquium
Here is the talk's abstract and the speaker's short biography.
With the prevalence of digital devices, the amount of new data that is being produced has reached an unprecedented volume. Applying cutting edge machine learning technologies to such “big data” has produced astonishing results in many areas including traditional computer science as well as heath and finance. The area of educational research is no exception. In particular, the introduction of computing devices in the educational scene makes emergence of big data in educational research possible. In this talk, educational research projects that make use of big data are presented along with current educational research trends are discussed.
Gahgene Gweon is an associate professor at the Graduate School of Convergence Science and Technology, Seoul National University. She directs the cognitive computing lab (http://cclab.snu.ac.kr), focusing on understanding human’s cognitive processes and building systems that can support human cognition and behavior. To attain her research goal, she is interested in utilizing computing technologies such as natural language processing, data mining, and behavioral intervention technologies. She received her PhD in Human Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University in 2012, and a dual bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Economics from University of California, Berkeley in 2002. In 2012-2016, she was an assistant professor at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
